Au mois de juin ou juillet, avant de quitter la France, j'étais allée à la gendarmerie pour faire une procuration pour les élections présidentielles, sachant que je ne serai pas en France. Mais c'était beaucoup trop tôt et je n'ai pas pu le faire. Donc, quand je suis arrivée aux Etats-Unis, je me suis inscrite au Consulat Français de Boston, ce qui a fait que j'étais automatiquement inscrite sur les listes électorales des français établis hors de France. A cause du décalage horaire, les français en Amérique votent un jour avant nos compatriotes en France. Ce matin, samedi 21 avril, j'ai pris le train pour aller à Boston. Le Consulat Français n'est pas un bâtiment en lui-même, c'est plusieurs bureaux dans un grand immeuble tout prêt des hôtels les plus luxueux de la ville. Ensuite, pour voter, ça se passe comme en France, sauf qu'il n'y a qu'un seul isoloir. On vérifie que l'on est sur la liste, on signe et puis voilà! Je sais même que j'étais la 19ème personne à venir voter. Maintenant, il faudra que j'y revienne le samedi 5 mai, cette fois accompagnée de mes parents et de mon frère!
In June or July, before leaving France, I went to the police station to sign a "procuration" for the presidential elections since I knew that I wouldn't be in my country to vote in person. A "procuration" is a paper which gives someone else the right to vote in your behalf. But it was too early and I couldn't get one. So, when I arrived in the US, I contacted the French Consulate in Boston to get on the list of French people living in New England which means that I got enrolled on the list to vote for the French president. Because of timezones, French people in America vote one day before those actually living in France. This morning, Saturday 21st of APril, I took the train to go to Boston. The French Consulate isn't a building in itself, it's a couple of offices in a big building located next to some of the most luxurious hotels in town. Then, to vote, it's like in France. We have to take papers with the names of the candidates (one name on every paper), then go into a voting booth and put the name of your choice inside a blue enveloppe. People check that you're on the list, you sign and tadam! I even know that I was the 19th person of the day to vote. Now, I'll have to come back on Saturday 5th of May for the second round, this time with my parents and my brother!
Mais ma journée était loin d'être terminée! J'ai rejoint mon amie Tina et ses amies pour un brunch! Et pour une fois, j'ai vraiment pu prendre le temps d'apprécier. Parce que j'ai l'impression que chaque fois que je vais au restaurant avec des américains, il faut toujours se dépêcher et donc on ne prend pas le temps d'apprécier la nourriture. Aujourd'hui, nous avons attendu volontairement presque une heure avant de manger et nous sommes restées pratiquement autant de temps à table à finir nos verres après avoir terminé notre repas. C'était un bon changement! J'ai même goûté un cocktail bleu à la crème de violette! Et le dessert, une tarte au chocolat, était excellente! Après notre brunch, nous sommes allées faire un peu de shopping dans un mall et nous avons même rencontré deux Jack Sparrow! Le temps était absolument magnifique à Boston, avec un soleil comme on les aime et une brise (parfois très forte!) pour empêcher d'avoir trop chaud. Avant de retourner à la gare, je suis allée dans le Jardin Public de Boston pour me promener et m'allonger un peu dans l'herbe. Et j'ai vu un teckel qui ressemblait beaucoup à un des miens!

But my day was far from over! I met with my friend Tina and her friends for brunch! And for once, I really got time to enjoy it. Because I feel like every time I go to the restaurant with Americans, we always have to hurry and we do not take time to actually enjoy the food. Today, we chose to wait almost an hour before eating and we almost stayed as long after our meal, just sitting at the table and finishing our drinks. It was a good change! I even took a blue cocktail made with "crème de violet". And the dessert, a chocolate tart, was excellent! After our brunch, we went shopping in a mall and we met two Jack Sparrows! The weather in Boston was absolutely gorgeous today, with a shining sun and some wind to prevent us from being too hot. Before going back to the train station, I went to the Boston Public Garden for a walk and sat for some time in the grass. I even saw a dog like the ones I have at home!
