Vendredi dernier, c'était le jour de la Francophonie à Bryant et pour une fois, j'étais à la fac un vendredi. D'habitude je travaille depuis l'appartement ces jours-là. Le matin, on a regardé L'Arnacoeur, avec les sous-titres en anglais pour ne pas perdre les étudiants et comme je ne l'avais jamais vu avant, j'étais bien contente. Malheureusement, je n'ai pas pu le voir en entier parce que j'avais rendez-vous avec la tutrice de français pour le déjeuner. Ce qui est drôle, c'est qu'elle vient de Toulouse! Bon, d'accord, elle a immigré dans le Rhode Island quand elle avait 12 ans mais quand même. C'est une belle coincidence de rencontrer quelqu'un qui vient du même coin que moi de l'autre côté de l'océan Atlantique! Après le déjeuner et quand le film a été terminé, Mary et moi avons retrouvé les étudiants qui s'occupent du club de français pour la Course de Serveurs. Beaucoup d'étudiants y ont participé et c'était assez drôle de les voir essayer de marcher le plus vite possible sans courir. En plus, il faisait très beau ce jour-là. Comme il avait beaucoup plu le mercredi et qu'il y avait eu beaucoup de vent le jeudi, j'avais peur que ce soit la même chose vendredi. On a eu de la chance.
Last Friday, it was French Day at Bryant so for once, I was on campus on a Friday. I usually work from home on these days. In the morning, we watched The Heartbreaker (a French movie) with the English subtitles so we wouldn't lose the students. I had never seen it before so I happy about it. Unfortunately, I couldn't watch all of it because I had to meet the French tutor for lunch. The funny thing is that she comes from Toulouse. Granted, she moved to Rhode Island when she was 12 but still. It's nice to find somebody from the same city as I am on the other side of the ocean! After lunch and when the movie was over, we met with the students from the French club for the Waiters' Race. A lot of students participated and it was rather funny to see them walk as fast as they could without running. Besides, the weather was gorgeous that day. It had rained a lot on Wednesday and it was very windy on Thursday so I was afraid it would be the same thing on Friday. We were lucky.
Après la Course de Serveurs, Mary avait prévu une petite leçon de cuisine dans les locaux du Club International. Au menu, des madeleines et des mini-tartes à l'abricot et à la banane. Les étudiants n'avaient jamais goûtés ces petit gâteaux et je pense qu'ils ont vraiment apprécié. Ce sont eux qui les ont préparé et le fouet électrique de Mary a même rendu l'âme pendant que l'on préparé la pâte. Les mini-tartes aux fruits et à la pâte d'amande étaient super bonnes elles aussi. Au final, c'était une très bonne journée et avant même qu'elle ne soit finie, on discutait déjà de ce que l'on pourrait faire pour notre prochaine journée de la Francophonie. Si c'est pas génial!
After the Waiters' Race, Mary had planned a little cooking lesson in the ICC kitchen. We made French teacakes called "madeleines" and some apricot tarts. The students had never tried these French teacakes and I think they liked them. They had to make the batter themselves. The small tarts with marsipan were a riot. In the end, it was a really good day and before it was even over, we were already planning what we could do for the next French Day at Bryant!
