Dimanche dernier, le dernier jour que j'ai passé à New York, je suis allée à Ground Zero, là où il y a eu les attentats du 11 septembre en 2011. Pour y entrer, c'est gratuit mais il faut réserver un pass sur le site Internet car ils n'acceptent qu'un certain nombre de personnes à la fois. Et encore une fois, il faut passer à la sécurité. En plus, avant et après être passé à la sécurité, il y a des agents qui vérifient les tickets SEPT fois. Le site est encore en travaux parce que le musée n'est pas encore ouvert et ils reconstruisent des buildings tout autour du site, mais vous savez qu'à la place des tours jumelles, ils ont contruits ce qu'ils appellent des "piscines" avec de l'eau. Ca fait un bruit du tonnerre et on n'entend pas vraiment les gens quand ils parlent. De toute façon, c'est vraiment un lieu de recueillement et les gens ne parlent pas beaucoup. Certains sont venus chercher des noms en particulier. Les noms de toutes les personnes qui sont mortes dans les attentats sont inscrits tout autour des deux piscines ainsi que les noms des personnes mortes dans l'attentat de 1993 et les personnes qui sont mortes au Pentagone et en Pennsylvanie le 11 septembre. C'est assez impressionant d'être à Ground Zero quand on l'a toujours vu à la télé et que l'on sait l'importance que l'événement a pour les américains.
Last Sunday, my last day in NYC, I went to Ground Zero where the 9/11 attacks happened. To get in, it's free but you have to ask for a pass online because they only allow a certain number of people inside at the same time. And once again, I had to go through security. Besides, before and after going through security, they verify your ticket SEVEN times! The site is still under contructions since they are buildings new skycrapers but you know that instead of the Twin Towers they built what they call "pools" with water like waterfalls. It makes a lot of noise and you can barely hear the people around you. Anyway, it's a place where people come to reflect so there isn't a lot of talking. Some people actually come to look for names of people they knew. All around the two pools, they've put the names of all the men and women who dies in the attacks, along with the names of those who died during the 1993 bombing, and those who died at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania on 9/11. It was really something to be at Ground Zero, especially when you know how significant this place is for Americans.
Après Ground Zero, je suis retournée à Central Park pour aller au zoo! Et dès que je suis arrivée, les soigneurs sont venus nourrir les otaries. Ils leur faisaient jouer au frisbee et saluer, applaudir. C'est intelligent une otarie. Je me promenais dans le zoo et je me suis rendue compte que en fait, il était assez petit. Ils ont un jardin tropical avec tout plein d'oiseaux de toutes les couleurs qui volent en liberté. Il y avait aussi beaucoup de serpents qui faisaient quand même un peu peur. A l'extérieur, ils ont un okapi, des pandas rouges qui sont trop mignons et un léopard des neiges qu'on peut à peine apercevoir parce qu'il ne doit pas trop aimer quand il y a trop de monde à la grille. Et l'ours blanc dormait dans le coin le plus reculé de son immence enclos. Mais les animaux que les enfants aimaient le plus étaient les pingouins. Vous connaissez le film Happy Feet avec les pingouins qui chantent? Un nouveau film est sorti il y a pas longtemps et partout dans le bâtiment, les parents disaient: "Regarde! C'est comme dans Happy Feet!" Il y avait tellement de monde, on pouvait à peine marcher à l'intérieur, surtout que pour ne pas perturber les animaux, il y a très peu de lumière.
After Ground Zero, I went back to Central Park to go to the zoo! And when I got there, the zookeepers were getting ready to feed the sea lions. They made them play with a Frisbee, salute and clap. A sea lion is an intelligent animal. As I was walking in the zoo, I realized that it wasn't really big. They have a tropical garden with multicolored birds that fly over your head. They also have an exhibit with snakes which were kind of scary. Outside, they have an okapi, a couple of cute red pandas and a snow leopard that we barely saw because he must not like it when people crowd around his cage. The polar bear was sleeping in the farthest corner of his space so it was hard to see him too. The most popular place in the zoo was the exhibit with the penguins. Do you know the movie Happy Feet? The one with the singing penguins? A new one was released not too long ago and it's very popular with the kids. In the building, the parents were all saying: "Look! It's like Happy Feet!" You could hardly move inside and since they don't want to disturb the animals, the light is really low.
Et à la fin de la journée, il a fallu reprendre le bus pour renter à Providence. Mais bien sûr, je n'étais pas le seule personne à vouloir rentrer chez moi après un weekend. C'était fou le monde qu'il y avait à la station de bus. Ils ne nous laissaient pas descendre aux portes d'embarquement, c'était très mal organisé et au final, je suis montée dans un bus un peu moins de 20 minutes après l'heure à laquelle j'aurais dû partir normalement. Et le voyage qui n'avais pris de 3 heures à l'aller a pris à peu près 4 heures 30 au retour. Mais c'était un très bon weekend et il me tarde de revenir à New York!
At the end of the day, I had to go take the bus back to Providence. But of course, I wasn't the only one who wanted to go home after a weekend away. It was insane how many people were at the bus station. They wouldn't let us go down the stairs to the boarding gates, it wasn't well-organized but in the end, I managed to get on a bus 20 minutes after the time I should have left. And the trip that had taken less than 3 hours the first time took more than 4 hours and a half the second time. But I had a very good time in NYC and I can't wait to go back!
